Planning your visit
How to get here
We are located just off Stour Street, at Water lane. If you approach us from the High street, walk along Stour Street until you see Rock, Paper, Scissors, then turn right down Water Lane. The Mooring Cafe is on the left before the bridge. Continue over the bridge and you will see the entrance to the island on the left, large black gates!
Alternatively if you approach from Beer Cart Lane, continue down the road until you see Rock, Paper, Scissors, and continue on to Water Lane.
The Mooring Cafe
The Mooring Café is a beautiful Victorian-inspired cafe and bar, operated by the Canterbury Punting Company. When you arrive, why not pop in and pick up refreshment and snacks to take in to the show? The Café provides both soft drinks and alcohol (known for their delectable cocktails!), and light brunch food and snacks.
Eating & Drinking
Our Foyer Area has picnic table and barrels ideal for sitting down and enjoying food and drink. When the performance is due to begin, you may of course bring food and drink with you, but we don't allow glass on the island as we wish to avoid breakages left there. The Mooring Cafe and the Theatre do provide take away containers and cups, as well as branded plastic glasses should you wish to buy or hire them.

Canterbury Punting
Why not travel to the theatre in style, and experience some of the delights of the city from the river? Canterbury Punting Company provides river tours through the city, and upstream into the countryside, using bespoke, hand-built punts and operated by qualified informative and entertaining guides. Have a look at our deals for discounted joint bookings between our shows and tours!
How to treat the Island
We are very fortunate to have a theatre in such a beautiful spot, full of British native wildlife and nature. It's our responsibility to preserve this environment, and we ask for your help by requesting that you take any rubbish you have with you when you leave. We also ask that you stay in the boundaries we have set to ensure the wildlife is undisturbed, and of course that you remain safe too - The river is deep in some areas, and we wish to avoid any accidents!
